Having A Good Heart

A heart filled with God’s word need not fret, doubt nor fear defeat. The Lord wishes above all things that we should prosper and be in good health as our souls proper{3John 2}. It is worth knowing that a good heart promotes good health and keeps us in tune with God.

Here are five keys to developing a good heart.

Meditate on the word of God

This book of law shall not depart from your mouth but you shall meditate on it, day and night that you may observe to do according to all that is written in, then shall you proper and have good success {Joshua 1:8}. When we meditate, not just read the word, it finds its way and place in our heart and gets rooted in us; heed should therefore be taken to God’s word to enable us overcome sin and never wander from His commandment {Psalms 119:10-12}. Above all pray, we know it works {Mark; 11:24}. Most importantly, the Word is a lamp to our feet, a light to our path and an armor, It directs our steps, illuminates our path and protects us from negative thoughts and emotions respectively, hence a godly heart that is full of love, joy and peace will lead to a healthy living.

Bridle your tongue

The words we speak have great blessings and enormous consequences and the scripture spelt it out that ”Life and death are in the power of the tongue” {Proverbs 18:21}. A transformed heart is thus the only guarantee that the word we utter will be edifying while the content of our heart is what determines what we say and what we say sets our future in motion.

Always Forgive

Forgiveness sets the heart free and give one wings to fly.
Have you been wronged or hurt deeply? Instead of anger, bitterness and resentment, just forgive. Bearing in mind that genuine forgiveness does not wait for apology; don’t even wait for it because it may never show up. Notwithstanding still forgive and move on. Neither resort to revenge, rather rely on Him who said “vengeance is His, He will repay {Romans 12:19}”. A popular scriptural verse admonishes us thus, “if you do not forgive men their trespasses, your Father in heaven will not forgive you either {Matthew 6:15}. Moreover unforgiveness rarely hurt anyone but the one holding it. So free your heart of that load and be happy.

Have positive friends

Because words, thoughts and attitudes can be contagious, our circle of friends should be carefully selected or chosen; not the likes of those who spew negative stories, spread rumors, betray confidence and do not maintain integrity. Good friends should be able to impact and influence us positively, leaving us with great memories and indelible footprints in the sands of time.

Feed your mind with healthy thoughts

What enters our mind manifest in our actions and affects our well-being, hence as long as you live, sing, praise and worship God; play good music and fix your thought on whatever that is true, honest, just, pure, lovely and of good report and ruminate on them as long as life lasts.
